The Goonies: Chunk

It's be quite a while since I posted any new art. I apologize for that. I have been keeping busy at my day job making social media games for Facebook. I have also been working on a ton of freelance work not to mention spending a considerable amount of time building a castle bed for my daughter plus creating Halloween costumes for myself and all three of my kids. I do have plans to begin revamping my website and should be launching my web comic early next year. I have plenty of new art coming your way and I will be previewing the process on the inter-webs real soon, however before I get to that I thought I would do some warm up sketches featuring one of my favorite movies from my childhood: The Goonies...

He Man Bot- Sketch

Here's another fan art robot, This time of He Man, Hopefully I'll get a chance to color these soon. I think the color will make the fact that they are robots a little more obvious.

Spider Man Bot- sketch

It's been over a month since I've posted anything new to the blog. It may seem as if I took a vacation, however I have been very busy working on a verity of projects. In addition to finishing up my comic: "Young and the Dead: No Zombies Allowed",which I should have competed by the end of this month I have been working on a new mixed media, three dimensional painting technique that I plan to share here very soon.

In the meantime I'm planing to do a series pop culture robot designs, kind of a reboot of the Pop Botz card sketches I did back in June of last year. I had fun with those, but In the end I wasn't crazy about the finished look. I'm going to shoot for something a little cuter and hopefully more humorous. Eventually The plan is to print a series of cards using my own creations and some public domain characters, but for now bear with me while I play around with some different styles using a few fan art staples.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Spider-Tron Line Art

I thought that replacing the web patterns on Spidey's costume with the glowing circuitry of the original 80's Tron costume would make for an interesting design.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Yorko- Lineart

Yoda and Orko seemed like a natural mash-up, both are short, both have pointy ears and long robes. If you're like me and wondered what these two would look like after a little gene splicing, now you know.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Buzz America- Color Art

In the middle of drawing and coloring this Mash-up I had a chance to check out The Pixar Story on Netflex. I found it very inspiring. It's amazing how Pixar can release one fantastic vision after the next. What great characters. I'll have to do more of my own Pixar interpretations in the future.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: VIN-2D2- line art

After the success of Star Wars. It seemed everyone tried to cash in on the whole "space opera" phenomenon. As young kid who loved Star Wars and couldn't wait for the next installment to come out I welcomed all of these cash grab productions. Sure Battlestar Galactica and The Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon reboots could never really stack up to Star Wars in my opinion, but I would rather have a halfway decent sci-fi epic than none at all.

Walt Disney's answer to Star Wars was 1979's The Black Hole. This wasn't my favorite of the post Star Wars sci-fi films of the late 70's and 80's but that didn't stop me from gobbling up a fair share of Black Hole toys. One of my favorites in the Black Hole toy line was a little robot named V.I.N.Cent, which bared an obvious resemblance to R2D2. I was curious what these to somewhat similar robots would look like it they fully integrated.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Trap Fett- Line Art

For my first Cartoon mash-up I took two of my all time favorite character designs from two of my all time favorite entertainment properties: Boba Fett from the Star Wars films and Trap Jaw from the Masters of the Universe toy line. Each of these villains have such iconic looks to them, I especially love their awesome weaponry. I had a blast figuring out interesting ways to combine the two.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Update

Ok So this sketch blog have been a little light on post as of late. I had some more concept art from The Adventures of Alex the Ape that I wanted to share but never got around to it. In the near future I have plans to do a major web overhaul in which I plan centrally locate my website , blog, portfolio as well as an online store. When that happens I would like to add a more in depth showcase of Alex the Ape art.

Anyhow, moving on... I've been making progress on my project for The Mini Comics Dump Truck. At 22 pages it has officially moved out of mini comic territory into what most would call a standard format. As of this post the name of the book is Young and the Dead: No Zombies Allowed is is somewhat of a cross between Night of the Living Dead and The Goonies or Monster Squad. So if you think you might want to see kids kicking some zombie butt, stick around, I hope to post some more preview art in the near future.

Now on to something completely different... Cartoon Mashups! What's that you say? Cartoon Mashups are a new series of fan art sketches where I take to popular cartoon characters and, well mash them up. Let me know what you think. If you have any requests I'm open to suggestion.

The Adventures of Alex: Ludlow's Supersuit Concept Art

Even though The Adventures of Alex the Ape was never developed into a series, We did shoot a pilot episode. The pilot entitled "Some Like it Hot" centers around Dr. Ludow's attempts to destroy the ozone layer in order to create a demand for his heat resistant supersuits. Alex and his friends once again swing to the rescue.

Here is some concept art I did for a purposed episode called "Space Disgrace" where Alex The Ape Builds a makeshift rocket and blasts into outer space in order to stop Dr. Ludlow from blasting his garbage into space. Alex and his fiends use their ingenuity to solve problems whereas Dr. Ludlow relies on high tech gadgets and deep pockets.

The Adventures of Alex the Ape

February was a was pretty sparse as far as posts go. I did manage to upload some character designs for the project I'm working on for the Mini Comics Dump Truck. I'm making progress on that comic and hope to post some of those pages soon, however right now everything is in a rough blueline pencil stage and I want to wait until it's a little more fleshed out before showing it here on the blog.

So while I'm working away on my mini comic I thought I would dig into the archives and post some concept designs I created for a children's program that I was involved in back in the days.

The Adventures of Alex was conceived as an environmentally themed children's program set on a tropical island where our heroes, Alex the gibbon ape and his friends strive to protect each other and the world they inhabit, from the diabolical mad scientist Dr. Ludlow. We shot a pilot for the series that was eventually optioned by a reputable entertainment company, unfortunately the program didn't really evolve much beyond that stage. I still believe there is something to be mined here, maybe as a web comic or even an animated short. Who knows maybe we'll see more from Alex the Ape in the future.

Miscrits: Original Concept

This is the first conceptual drawing I ever did for Miscrits. The game ended up going in an altogether different direction, but I still think there might be something to be mined here.
