The Goonies: Chunk

It's be quite a while since I posted any new art. I apologize for that. I have been keeping busy at my day job making social media games for Facebook. I have also been working on a ton of freelance work not to mention spending a considerable amount of time building a castle bed for my daughter plus creating Halloween costumes for myself and all three of my kids. I do have plans to begin revamping my website and should be launching my web comic early next year. I have plenty of new art coming your way and I will be previewing the process on the inter-webs real soon, however before I get to that I thought I would do some warm up sketches featuring one of my favorite movies from my childhood: The Goonies...

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Spider-Tron Line Art

I thought that replacing the web patterns on Spidey's costume with the glowing circuitry of the original 80's Tron costume would make for an interesting design.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Yorko- Lineart

Yoda and Orko seemed like a natural mash-up, both are short, both have pointy ears and long robes. If you're like me and wondered what these two would look like after a little gene splicing, now you know.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Buzz America- Color Art

In the middle of drawing and coloring this Mash-up I had a chance to check out The Pixar Story on Netflex. I found it very inspiring. It's amazing how Pixar can release one fantastic vision after the next. What great characters. I'll have to do more of my own Pixar interpretations in the future.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Buzz America- Line Art

This was a fun one. I'm not sure this black and white version is all that effective, but I will have the color art up soon.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: VIN-2D2- line art

After the success of Star Wars. It seemed everyone tried to cash in on the whole "space opera" phenomenon. As young kid who loved Star Wars and couldn't wait for the next installment to come out I welcomed all of these cash grab productions. Sure Battlestar Galactica and The Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon reboots could never really stack up to Star Wars in my opinion, but I would rather have a halfway decent sci-fi epic than none at all.
Walt Disney's answer to Star Wars was 1979's The Black Hole. This wasn't my favorite of the post Star Wars sci-fi films of the late 70's and 80's but that didn't stop me from gobbling up a fair share of Black Hole toys. One of my favorites in the Black Hole toy line was a little robot named V.I.N.Cent, which bared an obvious resemblance to R2D2. I was curious what these to somewhat similar robots would look like it they fully integrated.

Cartoon Mash-Ups: Trap Fett- Line Art

For my first Cartoon mash-up I took two of my all time favorite character designs from two of my all time favorite entertainment properties: Boba Fett from the Star Wars films and Trap Jaw from the Masters of the Universe toy line. Each of these villains have such iconic looks to them, I especially love their awesome weaponry. I had a blast figuring out interesting ways to combine the two.

The Adventures of Alex: Ludlow's Supersuit Concept Art

Even though The Adventures of Alex the Ape was never developed into a series, We did shoot a pilot episode. The pilot entitled "Some Like it Hot" centers around Dr. Ludow's attempts to destroy the ozone layer in order to create a demand for his heat resistant supersuits. Alex and his friends once again swing to the rescue.

The Adventures of Alex: Ludlow's Supersuit Unfinished Prop

Here we can see the basic framework for the supersuit prop taking shape. The majority of the props in the video were sculpted fro polyurethane foam which is then hard coated and painted.
